Shimano introduces the ultimate groupset: the DURA-ACE R9100 series

Shimano today announced its DURA-ACE R9100, the most advanced Shimano groupset ever. This set is the answer race professionals were waiting for to help them take their performance to a higher level.

Riders have always been looking for the winning combination of light, strong and more reliable components. Now, more than 150 years after the development of the first bicycle components, Shimano continues to innovate with the most advanced groupset available on the market.

Improving performance by maximizing efficiency

The concept behind the new DURA-ACE R9100 is based on the principle that each component should be improved to optimise input and maximise output. In other words, to reduce as far as technically possible energy loss between a rider's effort and the actual performance he or she achieves.

That’s why each and every DURA-ACE R9100 component has been developed for maximum effectiveness in combination with the rest of the components in the system. This is Shimano's system component concept. The result is a superior system that has truly qualified as having ‘System Supremacy’.

Synchronized Shifting

The new DURA-ACE R9100 adopts Synchronized Shifting, a system that Shimano first developed for mountain bikes. This allows riders to operate both derailleurs just by pressing a single shift button.

DURA-ACE R9100 includes an integrated power-meter option, hydraulic disc-brake options for greater stopping power, and new wheel profiles that lift wheel performance to a higher plane. It also has Shimano's Bluetooth E-Tube app, so riders can download user profiles to multiple Di2-equipped bikes and then optimise them using smartphones and tablets.

Optimal power transfer

The concept of maximising output by minimising energy loss begins with the crankset. The renewed design of the 2x11 HOLLOWTECH II crankset endows the new DURA-ACE groupset with an iconic aesthetic and improves the performance of the gear shift.

Gauging the power

With the first integrated power meter, riders now have access to very accurate data. The FC-R9100-P is Shimano's first power meter and also the first crank-integrated power meter on the market. It provides riders with the most accurate system in the area of power measurement. The ‘brain’ of the power meter is found in the DURA-ACE crankset, and strain gauges are fitted in the crankset arms to measure the power of the left and right legs.

All things considered, due to its minimisation of energy loss through each component, the DURA-ACE R9100 is a superior drivetrain. Unbelievably reliable shifting performance with better brake performance and the efficiency of the aerodynamic wheels, has resulted in a superior system.

The unparalleled performance of the new DURA-ACE R9100 is without doubt the result of the most advanced system in Shimano's entire 95-year history.
