Discover the new generation SHIMANO STEPS E6100
The E6100 is our newest premium e-bike component system packed with high-tech features. It’s designed for everything from traffic-riddled commuting to leisurely trips through the countryside. Travel anywhere your heart desires, knowing you’ll arrive fresh and invigorated.
Motor + Battery = Perfect Combo
The drive unit has seen a lot of work both inside and out. The shape echoes that of the compact and lightweight e-MTB (E8000) for increased rigidity and better power transfer. These combined improvements reduce drag to give a 20% increase in motor efficiency so you can travel further per charge.
We also took the weight down to an extremely low 2.88 kg, saving 210g from the previous E6000 model. You’ll feel this weight reduction most when you pedal past the motor’s assistance speed limit of 25km/h and hit the gradual transition from the motor’s power to yours.
The extra benefit of making the motor as compact and light as possible is that it fits you even better. We've brought the pedal arms closer into the bike and we've been able to make the frame geometry the same as a normal bike. This gives a natural riding position with optimal power transfer per pedal stroke. It also looks good thanks to its compact, sleek and integrated design so it blends right in with the bike frame.
The 250 watt nearly silent drive unit comes in two versions, one for trekking and one for city riding. You also have a choice between a 38T or 44T chainring to match your riding style and terrain. Both come with 170 mm arms for extra ground clearance which may come in handy for when you hit a stretch of bumpy ground, roll over a curb or pedal through that tight bend in the road.
By combining the drive unit with the powerful, fast-charging 504 Wh Li-Ion battery, supported travel on one charge is up to 180 km – a solid 20% further than E6000. A 20% increase in travel also applies to the slightly less powerful 418 Wh Li-Ion battery option. To further widen your playing field, you can add one of our new, compact-design 418 Wh or 504 Wh down-tube batteries.
Info display
We’ve built a lot of flexibility into what data you view – and how you view it. Choose to use our sleek, bar-mounted display that includes all functions you’ll need. Or wirelessly (via ANT or Bluetooth) partner the bike with your smartphone or a third-party display, such as Garmin or SIGMA using our junction box. You can also ride with only the junction box, which shows battery life and support mode so all your focus remains on the road ahead.
Controls
The ergonomic, adjustable layout of the switch levers make it a breeze to remain in control at all times. The left-hand control is set up for switching support modes (High, Normal, Eco, Walk) and on the right hand is the switch for controlling gears.
Gearing options
A unique E6100 series option is its new dedicated e-bike hub called Inter-5 Nexus. This internal gear hub is designed to handle all the specific demands of e-bike riding. It can withstand much higher pedaling forces, even while shifting. It’s also fully sealed for protection against the elements and offers a whopping 263% gear range. With Di2 electronic shifting, there is the added benefit of automatic shifting as well as automatic gear adjustment after stopping so you are quickly back up to speed.
The SHIMANO STEPS E6100 series will be available in the autumn of 2018.
