New DEORE XT and SLX – a new mountain bike era

One of the best aspects of mountain biking is the continuous evolvement of the sport. As a rider, your abilities continue to improve throughout the years. Your physique gets stronger and your technical skill levels grow. Our mountain bike products at Shimano evolve constantly to enable you to ride like you never did before. Shimano was the first manufacturer ever to offer a dedicated mountain bike groupset, with the famous DEORE XT launching in 1982. Now, in 2019, we’re proud to present the very latest in mountain bike drivetrain technology with our new DEORE XT and SLX drivetrains.

Technology driven

In both the XT and SLX groupsets you will find the very latest Shimano technology, trickled down from our top-of-the-line XTR group. Both groups now feature Dynamic Chain Engagement+ for the ultimate in chain retention and smoothness when running a single chainring setup. HyperGlide+ has improved shifting speed on both upshifts and downshifts, with optimised sprocket milling and chamfered chain edges. Plus, we’ve managed to improve the brake levers by making the construction stiffer, resulting in even more control and feel in our brake systems. All this technology sits right at your fingertips, with the I-SpecEV mounts allowing you to set up your cockpit in a clean and ergonomic way.

Shimano DEORE XT M8100 Series

Designed for the die-hard mountain biker who knows their gear. XT has always been at the very heart of mountain biking, right from the early days in 1982. Our new XT M8100 now offers the choice of a single or double chainring setup. The single chainring is available in a 28 tooth ring all the way up to a 36. The new MICRO SPLINE 10-51 tooth cassette ensures a wide range. Want more? The double chainring, in 36-26 tooth configuration is your best option, mated with the 10-45 cassette. The XT derailleur is equipped with the Bump Stopper and Shadow+ technology, which keeps the derailleur out of harm’s way as well as providing chain retention and the pleasure of a silent ride.

The new I-SpecEV mount offers increased adaptability, with a 14 mm slide range and 30 degrees of rotational movement. Rubber padding on the levers ensures you never loose grip. Going for a double chainring setup? You will love our Rapidfire Plus MONO shifting lever, enabling upshifts and downshifts with the very same movement.

The brakes have been redesigned and are available in either a two- or a four-piston calliper. The new levers are stiffer, providing you with better control, quicker engagement and optimal power. Combined with the RT-MT800 rotors, your braking has been taken to a whole new level.

The new 28 straight pull spoke XT wheels are available in 27.5” or 29” and come in 24 mm internal width or 30 mm internal width, offering both the cross-country racer and the trail rider an optimal pedalling platform.

Shimano SLX M7100 Series

SLX is designed for the avid mountain biker who sets out to explore further. The new SLX M7100 now offers the choice of a single- or double-chainring setup. The single chainring is available in a 28 tooth up to a 34 tooth ring. The new MICRO SPLINE 10-51 cassette ensures a wide range when opting for the single chainring setup. Want more? The double chainring, in 36-26 tooth configuration is your best option, mated with the 10-45 cassette. The SLX cassette offers the same technologies as our XTR and XT derailleur, with the Bump Stopper and Shadow RD+ technologies.

The SLX brakes have been redesigned and are available in either a two- or a four-piston calliper. The new levers are stiffer, providing you with better control, quicker engagement and optimal power.

SLX also offers centerlock hubs with the new MICRO SPLINE interface. Options are available in 100/110 mm (front) and 142/148 and 157 mm for the rear hub.

Shimano Technologies Overview

Dynamic Chain Engagement+

Our single chainring cranks now feature an ultra silent and smooth tooth profile. This keeps your chain on securely, yet rolling smoother than ever before.

HyperGlide+

This is our second generation chain-management optimisation. HyperGlide+ technology in the cassette enables quicker upshifts and downshifts, even under full load. The chain has been optimised with chamfered inner edges, enabling lower rolling resistance and smoother, quicker shifting combined with our Dynamic Chain Engagement+ chainrings.

Shadow RD+

Our latest derailleurs feature a bump stopper as well as a clutch mechanism to improve chain retention and keep your drivetrain silent. 13 T pulley wheels enable a huge range of gears while maintaining smoothness throughout the gears. Last but not least, the derailleurs feature our Shadow technology, offering the lowest-profile derailleurs on the market, keeping the setup out of harm’s way.

I-Spec EV

Our I-Spec EV handlebar mounts make for a clean cockpit setup, while also enabling you to set up your shifters and remotes as ergonomically as possible.

MICRO SPLINE

We redesigned our freehubs with MICRO SPLINE technology for the arrival of our 12-speed cassettes. MICRO SPLINE maintains the width of existing freehubs yet allows for the addition of a 10 teeth cog to create a 12-speed drivetrain.
