The Final Push

The final week of the Tour de France is when the drama builds to a climax. This year the Pyrenees played host to the deciding stages, including a very short and brutally race to Saint-Lary-Soulan. Having beaten crashes, high mountains, mechanical failure and adverse weather, the riders now face a new foe: fatigue. And it’s not only those fighting for glory. The domestiques who are obliged to put in kilometre after kilometre on the front of the peloton, to fetch bottles and many other duties – they are the heroes of the Tour de France.
